Company Background
Seavana
Yachts was formed as a New York company in 1999 for the purpose of
designing and building a yacht of a size that can be handled solely by its
owner, yet also accommodate a crew. The challenge was to do so without
compromising the elegant lines and proportions of the European motor
yacht. A team of American and British designers, engineers and boat
builders with over 100 years of collective-experience worked for over two
years on the design. The well-regarded naval designer Bill Dixon of
Southampton, England successfully accomplished the naval architecture and
engineering. Experienced builders in Oundle, England, a town well known
for its yacht building industry, construct the vessels to the highest
standards of quality and safety meeting both RCD and ABYC (British and
American) regulations.
The finished product is a versatile yacht that easily and efficiently goes
long distances to keep up with boating seasons and cruise in shallow
waters such as those in the Bahamas. With plenty of power (from 1420 up to
2030hp) and a modified deep v hull the yacht is ideal for cruising.
With no range of models to fit into, the size evolved solely by the
program of requirements and the capability of the designers. The most
important criteria incorporated into the design of the Seavana 60 was the
versatility of the vessel, allowing it to be captained by the
owner as well as accommodate a crew, but also prove spaces that would
serve multi functions, such as the garage that can be fitted as a dive
center. Other necessities were that the vessel have 3 large staterooms all
with ensuite baths, a large comfortable galley, dining area and saloon,
and spacious exterior areas ideal for outdoor entertaining.
Modern design tools and a concerted effort to re-evaluate functions and
space utilization played an important role in the outcome. The Seavana 60
is a yacht with an engine power to size (displacement) ratio that strikes
a critical balance between speed, efficiency and space. To illustrate, the
size of the master stateroom is comparable to that of most 65-foot yachts.
To package this space into a hull length of only 58 feet (overall length
is 59'-8") is testament to the efficient spatial design. In fact, when we
compared all the spaces it was obvious that we were comparable to yachts
in the 60- foot range. For this reason we choose to call the yacht the
Seavana 60.
It is with the ideals of efficiency, versatility, effective use of space
and style that we make yachts. Just as the Seavana 60 is no larger than
necessary, no space within it is smaller than needed.

SeaVana 60: A Background
The
Seavana 60, a flybridge motor yacht with European styling designed
expressly for the American market.
Historical Overview
Up until now Americans purchasing a European
style motor yacht had to settle for many design items that were European
in nature. If one liked the exterior styling of a European Yacht and the
high quality of the interior they had to adjust to the onboard European
standards. Such items include the large interior helm considered by
Europeans as the primary helm and a sunken in galley. The items an
American could not find aboard were: king size beds, wide doorways, and
full size furniture.
Implications
The Seavana 60 is a flybridge motor yacht conceived and created by
Americans for the North American market. Seavana Yachts searched the world
when deciding where to have the yachts built. After considering many
options including Italy and the Far East, Seavana Yachts chose to build
its yachts in the United Kingdom, where they are built to the highest
level of quality.
Onboard the Seavana 60 are items Americans value as
important such as:
-
A spacious cockpit and flybridge providing plenty of
space for outdoor entertaining.
-
Deep, full size furniture for comfort.
-
Large and spacious Master and VIP staterooms with
king size beds.
-
Spacious interior design that allows the galley and
saloon to become one expansive, uninterrupted space.
-
The galley located one step up giving it 360º views.
-
An ideal location for the interior helm allowing it
to relate to surrounding spaces, enabling the captain to be joined by
guests while piloting inside.
-
All American made and serviced appliances, systems
and equipment.
With the launch of the Seavana 60 Americans can purchase a yacht with the
exterior and interior styling and craftsmanship of European yachts with
the onboard comforts that Americans value. The yacht's design along with
the restrained high quality finishing as well as its versatile spaces
conveys the practicality of the Seavana 60.

Comparison Chart
Hull
The Seavana 60's 58-foot hull benefits from the design evolution and
on going refinement of previous hull designs by Dixon Yacht Design. The
hull design is characterized by a deep forefoot for a soft ride, an
amidships dead rise of 21 degrees, reducing to 15 degrees at the transom.
The hull has a flair, characteristic of Bill Dixon Design's, to maximize
deck beam without unduly increasing drag.
The Ride
Wide chines and prominent spray rail make for an efficient, dry ride with
great handling and stability both up and down wind.
Other
The placement of the engine room resorted in a moderate shaft angle
without resorting to tunnels in order to maintain the efficiency of the
Seavana 60.
Patented Convertible Crew Cabin/Tender Garage
The
versatile Convertible tender garage/crew cabin, found on the Seavana 60,
allows valuable space to be utilized for two functions that are not needed
at the same time. While cruising the space holds the tender and the crew
pilots the boat. Upon arrival at the destination the crew launches the
tender and the space converts to a cabin with a full bath.
The tender
garage is an easy and quick launch and retrieval system. This cabin can
also be fitted for specialty uses such as a dive center, storage for
extended cruises or a permanent sleeping berth. This patent pending system
protects the tender in an enclosure, preserves the elegant lines of the
yacht and leaves the alternate tender storage areas (e.g. flybridge or
swim platform) unencumbered and useable.
The Seavana 60 is the first three-cabin flybridge yacht of its size (hull
length is 58 feet) to incorporate both a tender garage for a 3.5-meter
(11'-6") jet boat and a stateroom completely under the level of the
cockpit floor. By using the space behind the engines and the foot space
between the reinforcement stringers of the hull and carefully structuring
the level of the cockpit floor, gunnels and engine bulkhead Seavana was
able to achieve a yacht with more useable space. The increased living area
onboard allows for more finishing onboard the Seavana 60 than on yachts of
similar sizes. The aft freeboard at 2 meters (approximately 79 inches)
creates a well-proportioned yacht in the aesthetic style of the European
motor cruiser.
